Professional Background
My name is Javier del Castillo and I am a Geographic Information Systems professional with a focus on coastal planning. I enjoy analysis of complex datasets to the end of solving real-world problems and arriving at actionable plans and solutions. Furthermore, communicating complex material through simple-to-understand formats is something I’ve always sought to achieve in my career. I received a Master’s in Urban & Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia School of Architecture – Department of Planning. I then had the privilege of being a mapping and graphics specialist for the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission for seven years. Since 2019 I have been an Environmental Planner at the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department where I’ve engaged my love of the outdoors and healthy open spaces for the improvement of one of San Francisco’s most valued resources, its local parks.
In the course of my career I have developed various technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills that make me an effective team member. Please explore this site which contains a number of work samples and feel free to contact me if you should have any questions or believe I could be of assistance to you or your organization.
